Homemade Chocolate Coffee Spoons |
Homemade chocolate coffee spoons can be a great way to liven up a cup of coffee as well as a great a addition to a coffee gift basket. The best part is that they are so easy to make. Ingredients: 12 oz. of Milk Chocolate (chips or cuts into small pieces) 24 Plastic Spoons (any color) Begin by lining a cookie sheet with wax paper. Next you should melt the milk chocolate. The ideal way to do this is with a double boiler but a microwave will also suffice. To do this, place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave the chocolate for one minute on medium heat, stir and then continue microwaving and stirring in thirty second intervals until the chocolate is thoroughly melted. You may find that even gourmet chocolate can be stubborn about melting. You will probably have to let the chocolate for a few minutes. You only want the chocolate warm enough to be able to dip the spoons in without them becoming misshapen from the heat. Once it is the ideal temperature, dip the business end of spoon in the melted chocolate until covered on both sides. You can tap the handle of the spoon against the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. Finally, place spoons on the waxed paper and refrigerate until the chocolate hardens. Decoration: 4 oz. White Chocolate (chips or cuts into small pieces) Melt the white chocolate using the same method outlined above. Again, you will want to let the white chocolate cool down as much as possible before proceeding. You can simple use a large spoon to drizzle the white chocolate across the chocolate coffee spoons in any fashion you like. Otherwise, you can pour melted white chocolate into a small plastic bag and cut a small hole in one corner of the bag with scissors. Finally, place the homemade chocolate coffee spoons in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens. Make your Homemade Chocolate Coffee Spoons Extra Special Try wrapping the spoons individually in colored plastic wrap and tie them off with some ribbon. Use different combinations of chocolate (dark & milk, white & dark, etc.) to produce a variety of homemade chocolate coffee spoons. Don't be stingy with the chocolate, try double dipping them in different flavors. Try using flavored chocolate chips like mint for the decorative drizzles. Or you could try adding a few drops of liqueur or vanilla flavoring to the chocolate before dipping the spoons. Don't stop with spoons, you can actually make almost anything chocolate covered using this recipe (pretzels, strawberries, apples, etc.) Crush hard candies like butterscotch or candy canes and sprinkle on the chocolate spoons before you chill. | |
