Baking Soda Milk Vinegar Coffee Cake |
One of the most common emails we receive is from people wanting to a coffee cake from only common household ingredients; a simple yet great tasting coffee cake that doesn't require a trip to store in order to be able to make it. For that reason we combed through the mountain of recipe suggestions we have received and come across the following recipe that uses some of the most common household ingredients like baking soda, milk, vinegar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Coffee Cake 1 1/2 cup of Flour 1 cup of Brown Sugar 1/2 cup of Milk 1 1/2 tsp of Vinegar 1 Egg, beaten 1/3 cup of Butter (or margarine) 1 tsp of Baking Powder 1/4 tsp of Baking Soda 1/4 tsp of Cinnamon 1/4 tsp of Nutmeg Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking pan. Stir together the flour and brown sugar in a medium sized mixing bowl. Cut the butter into the mixture until it is coarse and crumbly. Set aside about half a cup of the crumbs to sprinkle over the top of the cake when you are done. Now, stir in the baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the rest of the crumb mixture. In a separate bowl, combine the milk and vinegar and let the mixture stand for 5 minutes before continuing. Afterward the egg into the milk and carefully add this mixture to the crumb mixture. Stir just until moistened. Spoon the batter evenly into the baking pan. Bake for about 25 minutes. You can test the doneness with a toothpick before removing it from the oven. After you take it out of the oven allow it cool for 5 minutes and then remove it from the pan. Serve warm or cold. "Baking Soda Milk Vinegar Coffee Cake" was provided by a visitor to this site.
